The Auto Extractor is an automation item in Astroneer. It allows players to slowly extract resources from deposits without removing terrain, in exchange for giving the player 15 times the amount of nuggets it would normally deposit when done by hand.

Auto Extractor Rubber
Tungsten Carbide
Steel
EXO Chip
Large Printer

Uses[]

  • Power Consumption Rate: 8 U/s

At full power, the extractor takes 55.5 seconds to create a single nugget of extracted material. This will fill up its two slots in 111 seconds, a Medium Storage in 7.4 minutes, a Medium Storage Silo in 22.2 minutes, a Medium Resource Canister in 29.6 minutes, and a Large Resource Canister in 6 hours and 10 minutes with the use of an Auto Arm.

Operation Setup[]

Placement[]

The Auto Extractor needs to be placed at a resource deposit to extract its resources. To find a valid deposit, search for any area that highlights a resource when hovered over by the terrain tool.

Powering[]

The Auto Extractor needs 8 U/s, like mentioned above. The power must be plugged in from the leg anchor; placing it on an extra large platform will not allow it to function.

True Automation[]

If you are using a Medium Storage, or any type of storage with visible placement points, the Auto Extractor will automatically place the resources into the slots. Other storage types, such as the Medium Resource Canister, cannot be filled and emptied at the same time, so you may choose an Auto Arm setup to automate storing into them. Additionally, it's best to divert any other resources in from the main resource container, in case the Auto Extractor picks up on another resource.

After that, simply power on the Auto Extractor by interact. Be sure to check up on the green bar indicators, which indicate the current deposit amount remaining, after several minutes. in case any astroneers are wondering, here is an example of a dual resource auto extractor setup:

Note that lifting the auto arms up is not necessary and was done for decorative purposes only.

Missions[]

Unearthed requires you to print an Extractor, along with extracting a Resource Nugget.

Notes[]

  • The Auto Extractor requires 6 cycles to complete one nugget.
  • The Auto Extractor is able to attach directly to Tier 4 attachment slots. This allows it to be transported via a large rover without packaging. The extractor must be turned off before being connected, as it will still drain power when attached to the rover.
  • The green bars on each side of the Auto Extractor indicate how much resource is left to extract in the current deposit.
  • Organic patches are not true deposits, so the Auto Extractor cannot extract from them.
  • The Auto Extractor has a Tier 2 slot, which is meant for a Medium Resource Canister, Medium Storage, or Medium Storage Silo, to add extra storage without using an Auto Arm.
  • A Tall Storage may be placed on the top of the Auto Extractor so extracted resources are further away. This can be useful when using an Auto Arm with Auto Extractors placed sideways or upside down.
  • An Auto Extractor does not show up on the Compass, so a Beacon is advisable to mark the location if placed far from the player's base.
  • The thumping of an active Auto Extractor, if the player is within horizontal range of it, can be heard far underground if one listens.
  • If multiple resource nodes are close together or mixed, the Auto Extractor may switch to a different deposit mid-cycle. This can interrupt the intended extraction and may cause connected storage to stop filling correctly. To avoid this, ensure the extractor is placed precisely on a single resource type.

Trivia[]

  • The Auto Extractor was first shown off on the June 12, 2020 SES Dev Twitch stream.
